The Evolution of My Mac... Janice Henninger O'Brien

"Currently I have an iMac and I love it. I'm a graphic designer who started out on a drawing board covered with rubber cement and ink. My boss got me my first Apple in 1986. We had to put the costs under general office supplies since the company only allowed IBMs and hid it in the dark room. It took years for corporations to realize designers needed Macs! There were barely any design programs developed for PCs then.

Initially I used Pagemaker, but quickly changed over to Quark, still my favorite program. There was no MS Word/Office so I had to type all the copy for ads, annual reports etc. Eventually they developed optical scanning software so one could scan typed pages. That wasn't efficient either since it didn't read a lot of punctuation. There were a lot of typos in those days since there was no spell check.

Looking back I don't how I survived, always fighting for my Mac. And my Apple crashed daily if not hourly. I've been a loyal Apple customer for years and proud of it!"
